How bad is the drought in West Texas…

July 19, 2011

This bad….

This is OC Fisher Resevoir.

And the below pictures were taken recently to show that there is almost no water left in the lake. Just a little puddle which was the last refuge of the fish population, and as the puddle shrank, so did the amount of oxygen available in the water I assume.

A close up of the “puddle”, with the dead fish piled up.

Don’t know if the water is red because of some kind of algae, or if it is red because of the buzzards eating the dead fish and allowing the blood from the feast to collectively taint the water…

The guy who took the pictures said that he scared off about 30 buzzards, so I’m thinking they might indeed be contributing to the macabre scene….

We need rain in the worst way….

Amen, brother. We are also in desperate need of rain. Many of my farmer friends are in dire straights. We’ve had over 30 straight days of 100+ degree temperatures. The current crop rotation in this area, no matter what type of crop, has basically failed. I expect water rationing soon.

If the people in Minot, ND could do it, they would have been more than happy to send us some of their water. Wish there was an easy way to actually do it.
